Earth. Community. Sacrament.
Conference Program
Living in the Americas means that we are a part of a very particular landscape and a very particular story. In these days together, we wish to enter into a living process where we can come to know that which we share, humbly offer our experiences of pains and joys with one another, and seek out both what is being asked of us as Americans (in the broadest sense) and the shining light that can lead us forward.
As our preparations unfold, more will be shared regarding the specific schedule and offerings. What can be shared at the outset is that we hope for this to be a gathering of true co-creation!
While the program itself is still being developed, we can expect to explore together the following questions related to our theme:
Earth
In looking at the realms of stone, plant and animal in the Americas, what is it we share? What is unique to certain places? What aspects of His body are uniquely revealed here?
Community
What human movement has taken place on this land? What occurred in the name of Christianity? Can we humbly look at the human trespasses that have wounded this part of His body? How well do we also know ourselves, as the Movement for Religious Renewal? What is the gesture of how our communities were established in the Americas? What is the same and what is different between north and south? Where are we, where are we not?
Sacrament
What do our wounds reveal about what is trying to come to birth uniquely through the Americas? What needs healing? Have we found evidence of healing? How can our renewed sacraments and the new communities that can arise out of them meet and transform the materialism of the West? What does this mean for the earth?
The Founding of the Atlanta Congregation
will take place with the celebration of the
Consecration of the Human Being on Sunday, July 27
